Women's Studies Graduate Program
The UCLA Women's Studies Ph.D. Program is a small, highly selective
program that admits only four to six students per year. The Ph.D.
program is designed for applicants prepared to work in the competitive
atmosphere of post-secondary teaching and research.
Please note: The Women's Studies MA Program is
suspended indefinitely.
The goal of the Department of Women's Studies is to educate teachers,
researchers and professionals in the interdisciplinary field of Women's
Studies. It currently offers two programs of study (Concentration
and Ph.D.). Courses are taught by Women's Studies faculty from a variety
of departments and professional schools.
Among other benefits, we provide graduate students with opportunities to participate in scholarly conferences and to compete for awards and fellowships.
Research Conference: The UCLA Center for the Study of Women also sponsors an annual graduate student research conference “Thinking Gender.”
Graduate students from the UC system, USC, California State Universities, and other graduate institutions are encouraged to apply
to give a scholarly paper on a topic dealing with women/gender at this conference.
Awards and Fellowships: The Department of Women's Studies and the Center for the Study of Women also confer awards for research travel and achievement to UCLA undergraduates and graduate students.
