Information for Prospective Graduate Students:
Eligibility

Please note:
The Women's Studies
MA Program will not be offered in 2008-2009

All individuals with a BA degree or equivalent are eligible for admission to the Women's Studies Graduate Program. To apply for the Concentration, you must be a graduate student enrolled in another UCLA department, program or professional school.

For the Ph.D. program, admission is based upon the evaluation of the admissions committee made up of Women's Studies faculty from a range of departments and schools. The admissions committee considers the following factors: letters of recommendation from the applicant's former or current professors and/or supervisors or colleagues; undergraduate or MA grade point average; scores on the Graduate Record Examination. Of high importance are the Women's Studies supplementary essay and other writing samples submitted by the applicant.

Admission is based upon intellectual ability, past performance and, most important, the fit between the Women's Studies graduate program and the candidate's personal and professional goals. If you know your area of interest (health, law, literature or history, for example), we urge you to contact the Committee Chair of the Graduate Program, Elizabeth Marchant, (marchant@ucla.edu) in order to discuss your interests. If you would like to work with a particular UCLA faculty member, please give that individual's name in your supplementary essay.

Please note: the application deadline for Fall 2007 will be announced by the Graduate Division in September 2006. Applicants will be notified of admissions decisions in March. All acceptance letters come directly from Graduate Division. Financial aid decisions are made in April.
