Gender Studies Honors Research Project Assistance

$500-$1000 award range (amount dependent on research needs).  Research award for an upper division Gender Studies major who is eligible for and is pursuing honors in the major in 2015-16 (cumulative GPA of 3.4).

Gender Studies Community Engagement Award 

$1000 award (1-2 recipients) for Gender Studies majors or minors, recognizing outstanding achievements in practical applications of feminist theory through community service.  Essay should detail feminist theory into practice, what you have accomplished academically, personally, and in the community, e.g., participation in feminist organizations or political projects. Recipients will be recognized with a certificate at commencement.

  • Letter of endorsement from UCLA Faculty
  • CV (Curriculum Vitae)

Gender Studies Prize for Research Excellence

$1000 prize (1-2 recipients) for Gender Studies majors or minors (graduating seniors) for best research paper or critical essay submitted in a Gender Studies course in this academic year (including 199 courses), and the previous Spring quarter (Spring 2015, Fall 2015 and Winter 2016).  Students are nominated by Gender Studies faculty and TAs (one nominee each, seniors only).

Nominations from faculty and TAs should be sent to info@gender.ucla.edu, and should include:

  • Student’s name
  • Course number, title and quarter
  • Title of the nominated paper (if possible)

Estrin Family Women in Science Award

$1000 award to provide scholarship support for one upper-division undergraduate student with an outstanding academic record, preferably a female, with a major in Physical Sciences who has taken at least one course in Gender Studies and who has declared or intends to declare a double major or minor in Gender Studies. Recipient should be a upper-division undergraduate student with an outstanding academic record, preferably a female, with a major in physical sciences who has taken at least one course in Gender Studies and who has declared or intends to declare a double major or minor in Gender Studies.

  • Essay - Should address your career plans in relation to the sciences and the impact that Gender Studies has had on you and on your particular discipline (2-3 pages)
