Concentration in Women's Studies
The UCLA Department of Women's Studies offers a Concentration in Women's Studies to allow graduate students enrolled in UCLA departments, programs and professional schools to acquire expertise and a credential in Women's Studies.
In conjunction with another graduate program, students must take Women’s Studies 201, 202, and 210 (12 units of 200-level courses) and submit a Women’s Studies-related major research paper for approval by the Chair of the Graduate Committee. These requirements for the Women’s Studies Concentration are in addition to requirements of their primary program in their department or school, and must be completed before advancing to candidacy. Upon completion of the requirements, Women’s Studies will furnish each concentrator with a letter attesting to their basic competency in graduate work in Women’s Studies.
Required Courses
Women's Studies 201, 202, and 210--the introductory courses in Women's Studies.
Women's Studies 204--research seminar sponsored by Center for the Study of Women (one-unit course taken for two quarters).
Research Paper
Students submit a Women's Studies-related research paper. This paper may have been prepared in any graduate course (in Women's Studies or the student's home department, program, or school) but should reflect the concepts, theories, knowledge, and/or methods used in Women's Studies. The paper is approved by a faculty member designated by the Chair of the Graduate Committee.
